MELAKA: An entrepreneur’s hunt for cempedak in villages here has affirmed his faith in friendly Malaysians.

“The kampung folk here were very welcoming. They even guided me to the homes of their friends to source for the fruit, ” said 40-year-old Goh Ming Kang.

Goh, the managing director of Tech Food Ingredients Sdn Bhd, came to Melaka last month to search for cempadak in his bid to introduce the tropical fruit to China. His food manufacturing factory is in Port Klang.“I was treated well by everybody, from the villages to the Chief Minister’s office, ” he said.

Hailing from Tangkak, Johor, Goh was so moved by the warm reception that he decided to hold a unity event here on Aug 24.

He will be giving away dozens of bicycles, educational materials and toys as prizes, and he is working closely with education organisations to invite students to take part in the contest.

Recounting his childhood, Goh said he grew up in a Malay village and was surrounded by friends from all races.
